Expert Meeting on Marine Litter Monitoring in the Northern Adriatic

7 October 2026 · Center Rog, Ljubljana

The Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) and the National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) are bringing together representatives of relevant authorities, monitoring providers, researchers and invited experts from Slovenia, Croatia and Italy for a focused expert exchange on marine litter and microplastics monitoring in the Northern Adriatic.

The meeting will provide a space to compare current monitoring approaches and practices, exchange practical experience, discuss challenges and gaps, and explore opportunities for stronger cooperation and mutual learning across the region.

The discussion will connect European and Mediterranean monitoring frameworks with their practical implementation at national and Adriatic level. Particular attention will be given to how monitoring is currently organised and implemented, existing methodological and operational challenges, complementary sources of data, emerging monitoring approaches, and priorities for future development.

Beyond exchanging information, the meeting aims to strengthen connections between institutions and experts working on marine litter and to provide a basis for continued professional dialogue and cooperation in the Northern Adriatic.

Participation is by invitation only. This expert meeting is not included in the general conference registration.

Co-organised by the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) and the National Institute of Chemistry (NIC), Slovenia, in the framework of the Future of Plastic (R)evolution Conference.
